In a world where fashion often comes with a high price tag, one young woman has made it her mission to break down financial barriers and create opportunities for aspiring models. What started as a simple act of kindness at 15 years old has now grown into a national movement—impacting families, models, and photographers across the country.
Serenity was just a teenager when she recognized the struggles of low-income families in caring for their pets. Determined to make a difference, she began collecting pet supplies and food to distribute to those in need. Her efforts quickly gained attention, prompting her mother to establish Serenity’s Helping Hands, a Michigan-based nonprofit, to support her growing mission.
Serenity's dedication did not go unnoticed. Local news outlets covered her inspiring story, and soon after, the Detroit Tigers stepped in to sponsor her efforts. During a Tigers game, major networks like CNN and ESPN aired her journey, catapulting her mission into the national spotlight.
While Serenity was making a difference in the community, she was also actively participating in beauty pageants and modeling. However, her mother quickly realized the financial challenges of the industry. Determined to stay true to their mission of assisting low-income families, Serenity's Helping Hands expanded beyond pet care to providing affordable opportunities in the modeling and fashion world.
What began as a small initiative in Detroit soon gained traction across Michigan and eventually spread nationwide. The nonprofit now works with models and photographers across the country, making fashion shows and modeling accessible at a low cost.
In 2022, Serenity hosted her first runway fashion show aboard the Detroit Princess Riverboat, combining her passion for fashion with philanthropy by donating school supplies to children in need. The success of this event led to an annual tradition that continued in 2023 and 2024.
Beyond fashion, Serenity has used her 16th, 17th, and 18th birthdays to give back to the community, supporting causes such as domestic violence awareness and single mothers. By organizing fashion shows, the nonprofit has also provided Christmas presents, school supplies, and other essentials to families in need.
Serenity's innovative approach to philanthropy caught the attention of major sports leagues. After being invited to the MLB Christmas party, she proposed a groundbreaking idea: "We should host a fashion show during the game." The Detroit Tigers quickly embraced it, followed by the New York Yankees during New York Fashion Week 2024.
Her impact didn’t stop there. The NBA and the Detroit Pistons recognized her work, leading to halftime fashion shows at their games. Most recently, Serenity’s Helping Hands took its mission to California, collaborating with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Looking ahead to March 2025, the nonprofit is launching "The Chicago Fashion Walk", an event that will provide models of all ages with an opportunity to work with seven professional photographers, helping them build their portfolios at an affordable cost.
The success of Serenity’s Helping Hands is best reflected in the words of those it has impacted:
"If it wasn't for Serenity’s Helping Hands, my daughter would never have had the opportunity to learn about the fashion industry, walk the runway, and model in a healthy way," shared one grateful mother.
A model echoed this sentiment, saying, "I have been in the industry for a long time. Fashion shows and events are expensive, but Serenity opened the door for me to truly be seen."
A Grand Rapids photographer praised the nonprofit, stating, "I love fashion photography, but it’s not an easy industry to break into. I reached out to Serenity’s Helping Hands about an event I saw, and before I knew it, I was on the Yankee Stadium field in New York, photographing designers’ stunning work on beautiful young women."
Through determination, passion, and unwavering community support, Serenity’s Helping Hands continues to redefine philanthropy and fashion, making dreams a reality for those who need it most.
